Lost in Found: Robert Pascale
Podcast Overview
Unlocking the Potential of Existing Content
Welcome to another episode of Lost In Found from Catch+Release, the podcast where we dive deep into the world of creative content and the inspiring stories behind it. Hosted by our Executive Creative Director, ad industry veteran Tom Christmann, this episode features a guest who embodies the spirit of creativity and innovation in content creation: Robert Pascale.
In this episode, you’ll learn about Robert’s incredible journey and how he has helped countless creators bring their stories to life. From his time managing photographers for big stock footage companies to his new role helping TikTok influencers maximize their opportunities, Robert has always been bullish on creator content. So of course, Tom was excited to sit down with him and learn more about what makes this “Creator Whisperer” tick.
Content Innovation Is About Listening
Robert’s career spans over 25 years. From the analog era to the digital age, he’s been at the forefront of content innovation. He’s worked with top brands like Google, Pepsi and Getty Images. Along the way, he’s witnessed plenty of change in the business as the gatekeepers fall away and the creators become their own dealmakers. But to Robert, nothing much has changed; It’s always been about making the content people are looking for.
"When I was [working with agencies back in the stock footage era], I was at a meeting and asked, 'What do you guys really need?' They said, 'Interviews.' So, my friend Ben and I decided to go around New York and interview really interesting people. We had a show called Small Talk, and it did really well for us."
Listening to what your audience needs is something every creator or brand storyteller should be doing. We couldn’t agree more.
How To Be Timeless
Another of Robert’s keys to success: creating content that stands the test of time. He emphasizes the importance of producing evergreen material that continues to generate revenue long after its initial release. Robert’s approach involves focusing on universal themes and maintaining high production values, ensuring that content remains relevant and profitable.
"When I shoot, I shoot evergreen subjects, things that are going to have a long shelf life," Robert explained. "Three years is outstanding. Anything over that is amazing."
With many creators thinking about their day-to-day, thinking long term may take some planning. But by prioritizing timeless themes, creators can ensure their content continues to attract interest and generate income beyond a simple social media post.
Licensing Legalities
Understanding the legal aspects of content creation is crucial for any creator looking to monetize their work. Robert provides a comprehensive overview of the key legal considerations, including the importance of obtaining proper releases and understanding intellectual property rights.
"Legalities are super, super important," Robert stressed. "Just as important as picking up the camera and learning how to shoot." He recommends using tools like Easy Release, an app that simplifies obtaining model and property releases, making it easier for creators to manage legal requirements and focus on their craft.
Tailor-Made Creative Support
Robert offers creators invaluable resources through his website, RobertPascale.com. One of the standout offerings is his Creative Briefs & Shot Lists, which are tailor-made for each creator. By targeting the best-selling subject categories from concept to completion, Robert helps creators optimize their production process with his results-driven approach as a Creative Director and Filmmaker.
"I create a shoot brief which has a concept and a theme. Within that, I create a shot list. You get both," Robert detailed. This personalized support ensures that creators are equipped to produce high-quality content that appeals to their target audience while remaining commercially viable.
24: A Creator’s Guidebook
Robert is working on an e-book entitled "24". This collection of his tried and true processes for producing best-selling video clips is part memoir, part guidebook. "24" contains Robert's detailed field notes, strategic insights, and practical experiences aimed at optimizing the production of high-performing video content.
"I have all this information and wisdom from all these years," Robert shared. "I want to help people that I can't reach one-on-one to understand our medium, how to make revenue from that medium, and maybe help you if you want to become a filmmaker." This upcoming release promises to be an invaluable resource for any creator looking to enhance their craft and achieve greater success in the industry.
